Common questions
Objections we hear, and honest answers
I already tried budgeting apps and gave up.
Most apps hide assumptions or overwhelm you with categories. SmartFinanceNerd starts with free calculators so you can stress-test decisions first, then adds tracking only when you want persistence, with custom rules that automate the repetitive parts.
I need automatic bank sync.
We're actually currently working on that! For now, manual entry and CSV import work today. Bank sync is rolling out soon, so you can build a complete ledger now and turn on automatic sync when it ships, your categories and rules carry over.
I'm worried about connecting my bank.
You never have to link a bank account if you don't want to. You can still enter transactions manually or import CSV exports from your bank, spreadsheets, and etc. When we launch bank sync, connections use industry-standard security, and you stay in control of what you want to connect.
Why pay when Mint was free?
Ad-supported apps sell your attention, and Mint shut down. SmartFinanceNerd is transparent educational software with no ads, no data brokerage, and pricing you can see upfront. We designed it to be affordable and modular. And of course, free calculators will stay free forever!
Will this take hours to set up?
Most people log their first transaction in under a minute. Set a few custom rules for recurring merchants, import a CSV if you want history, and budgets plus analytics light up as soon as you have data.
Is this financial advice?
SmartFinanceNerd is educational software. We are not a bank, broker, or adviser. Calculators and workspace outputs are estimates from your inputs. We show our work so you can verify assumptions with qualified professionals.
