Software Engineer Intern

About the role

The Software Engineer Intern role is a full-time, on-site position based in Los Angeles, CA. The intern will help design, build, and test features across SmartFinanceNerd’s core platform, focusing on secure and reliable personal finance workflows. Daily tasks may include implementing back-end services and APIs, writing clean and maintainable code, reviewing pull requests, and assisting with performance and security improvements. The intern will collaborate with senior engineers, product, and design teams to translate user needs into technical solutions, debug issues, and participate in code reviews and technical discussions. This role offers hands-on experience in modern web application development and exposure to privacy-focused financial technology.

What we're looking for

• Foundational knowledge in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Skills in Back-End Web Development and Software Development, with experience building and integrating APIs or services.
• Programming proficiency in at least one modern language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or similar).
• Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and their application in real projects.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an on-site team environment, communicate clearly, and take feedback constructively.
• Interest in personal finance, privacy-focused products, and learning modern development tools and frameworks.
• Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) and basic software testing practices is beneficial.
