About the role
The Financial Journalist Intern is a full-time, on-site role based in Los Angeles, CA. The intern will research personal finance, fintech, and consumer money-management trends, translating complex financial topics into clear, engaging articles, explainers, and short-form content. Daily responsibilities include conducting interviews with subject-matter experts, analyzing product features and user behavior, and pitching story ideas aligned with SmartFinanceNerd’s editorial focus. The intern will write, edit, and publish content across web and new media channels, collaborate with product and marketing teams to develop educational pieces, and help maintain an accessible, privacy-conscious voice. The role also involves monitoring financial news, fact-checking data, and updating existing content to ensure accuracy and relevance.
What we're looking for
- Strong foundation in Business Journalism and Finance, with the ability to interpret financial concepts for a general audience.
- Excellent Writing and New Media skills, including experience creating content for digital platforms, blogs, or social channels.
- Solid Research abilities, including sourcing data, verifying facts, and synthesizing information from multiple credible references.
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail, particularly in editing, grammar, and data accuracy.
- Demonstrated interest in personal finance, fintech, or consumer economics.
- Ability to work on-site in Los Angeles, CA and collaborate in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Communications, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
